DOUBLE VISION

ELECTRONIC PRESS

Robert Pou

For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to sing. Even as a little boy, I would sing my heart out in the Catholic choir to hymns at Sunday mass. You could catch me singing in the hallways and harmonizing to songs like, "The Still OF The Night" and "Daddy's Home" with friends. As I grew older I learn to play different instruments throughout my school years. The one instrument that took my breath away was the guitar . It was my escape from the world and my source of creativity. I wrote my first song at 15 yrs old. I played with other kids from the neighborhood but nothing ever stuck because I was stuck in the 50's and 60's while everyone else was playing the 70's and 80's respectfully. Bck then you had to buy sheet music, learn it from a friend or figure it out yourself. I had a pretty good ear for music, so it wasn't hard at all.
As years went on and life became hard,  so did the lyrics to my music. It reflected the heartaches and the joys of life. Most of my songs are reflections of my inner most thoughts and emotions. I was never a hard rocker and I wrote songs that consisted with elements of someone who was in love. I'm a romantic at heart and have always been. I was driven by The Beatles, The Roling Stones, Bread, Elton John, Elvis Pressley, Kiss, The Doors, Eric Clapton (All Stages), The Shirelles, The Drifters, The Temptations, The Stylistics, Mavin Gaye, Otis Redding, Santana and  Al Green to name a few. This is what I grew up on, this is who I thought I was.

One day I was at work and  a friend and I starting discussing music by different artists. I told him that I liked slow blues music and he told me about an guitarist named Stevie Ray Vaughan. He asked if I ever heard him play? Went I went home that night, I listen to a track named, "Life Without You". I have to say that my eyed were closed until I heard that man play. As I started to follow other blues artists, BB King, Muddy Walters, Joe Bonamassa, Little Walter, Eric Clapton, Robert Johnson, Albert King, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, T-Bone Walker, Howlin' Wolf, Gary Moore and Jimmy Page, I began to create a styles of my own. I finally found who I was......
